ABOUT STORMY
I started life living
in a school bus fifty miles from the nearest town. Our nearest
neighbor was over a mile away on one side of us and there was
100 miles of national forest on the other side. We had no
electricity, indoor pluming, or running water. The bathroom was
an outhouse up the hill. We raised goats, chickens, and horses
and grew all of our own food. My mom even taught us from home.
For my ninth birthday I got a Honda 100 dirt bike and a shotgun.
We lived that way until I was twelve, when sold everything,
traded the horses in on peddle bikes, and we moved into a mobile
home park inside the city limits. Talk about culture shock.
However, it did give me some advantages. It gave me a
deep love of reading. It also allowed me to start college when I
was fifteen-years-old and get a special license so I could drive
myself to the college campus in my own car. So, it wasn’t all
bad.
When I was sixteen-years-old, my best friend called me
on the phone and told me she had an early birthday present for
me. She showed up at my house and pointed out my front door to
my birthday present. He was so hot! Tall, muscular, tight white
shirt, even tighter blue jeans, and black cowboy boots. I was in
love…or at least had a heavy case of lust.
Just a note: Every hero in my book is automatically in
cowboy boots. It’s just a given. A man could wear a gunnysack
and cowboy boots and be considered sexy. And it’s all my
husband’s fault. Blame him…I do.
We dated for two years but eventually went our separate
ways as teenagers often do. Eight years later, the same friend
had another present for me. Again, she pointed out the door…and
there he was, my high school sweetheart. Three weeks later we
were dating again. We were married a few years later and we’re
still going strong. I now live in the great Pacific Northwest,
with my gorgeous husband and soul mate, six very active
teenagers, two boxer/collie babies (Mook and Rascal, who are
presently sleeping at my feet), two old biddy cats, and three
fish.
I have lived my own romance novel. After finding my
soul mate, I felt a deep need to share romance with others.
Since I’m lousy at giving advice, I decided to write about true
love instead. Maybe I can inspire someone to find their true
love. So, here I am. I would love to hear from you, so stop by
and send me an email.
INTERVIEW
Q: What is your normal day like?
A: I usually get up
around 10am. I begun my regular
household chores, thaw something for
dinner, then head downstairs to my
office to check my email, and write or
read. About the same time my husband
goes to work, my teenagers get home from
school. That’s when my day gets really
organized. 3-4pm is snack/chore time,
4–6pm is homework time, 6:30 I start
dinner. 7–8pm is dinnertime (and we
always sit down together for dinner),
then I head to my bedroom and plug in my
laptop for more writing (which is where
I am right now). I’m usually up until 3
or 4 in the morning writing. I’ve always
been a night owl. Anything before 10am
should be illegal. Everyone knows not to
call my house before noon or at least
before I’ve had my coffee.
Q: Do you write
everyday?
A: And then some.
Sometimes things come up like family
stuff or such, but yes, I usually write
every day…all day. I love to write. If
I’m really on to something, I’ve been
known to stay all night writing. But I
get to see a lot of sunrises that way.
Q: What about
writer's block?
A: I don’t believe in
writer’s block. If I get stuck, I just
move on to the next book (I currently
have nine books I’m working on so
there’s always something to write.).
Q: What would you
say is a true hero?
A: A hero is hard to
define because everyone’s perception is
different. For me, my perfect hero is my
husband. Besides the fact that he’s drop
dead gorgeous, he works six days a week
so that I can stay at home and write
fulltime and follow my dream. Even
though he truly doesn’t like to read, he
listens to me go on and on about my
stories. He’s tall, strong, and he
always supports me in pursuing my
dreams. What more of a hero could I
want? And yes, I base a lot of my hero’s
personality traits on my husband.
Q: How do you know
if you’ve written a good story?
A: Easy, I cry my eyes
out. Drives my husband batty because I’m
writing something that makes me cry, but
what can I say, sometimes you just need
to cry…because then afterwards, you get
to be happy.
Q: Which comes
first, the story, the characters, or the
setting?
A: The idea comes first.
I have an entire file that is nothing
but ideas. It could be a word, or a
paragraph, or a song title, or even a
dream I had. Whatever the idea is, I go
with it and create a story. I do not
write out story outlines because I never
know where my story is going to go,
sometimes from paragraph to paragraph.
Q: What’s your
favorite thing about writing?
A: Besides the romance
side of things, I like being able to
create worlds. When I write a story, I
see it unfold in my head like a movie. I
see the characters talking to each other
and interacting together. The ability to
be able to create this entire world is
amazing to me. Take The Katzman’s Mate
for example, I created an entire
planetary system with worlds, a
centralized government, and a race of catmen with pointed ears and everything.
There are even blue skinned aliens. How
cool is that?
Q: Do you have a
favorite character?
A: Yes! In one book that
I am working on I have a character n |
