I adored Karly’s quick-witted banter with Hawk and the fact that she didn’t let him intimidate her. Hawk is the strong, silent type and right from the first page you get the sense that he’s been very hurt in the past. It’s a refreshing change of pace to be able to view rodeo cowboys as people with very real problems and a life outside of the rodeo circuit. This second novella follows rodeo life more closely than did the first story, meaning this could be a hit with rodeo and cowboy fans. Both characters have been fairly well penned. Karly is a woman who works hard, and goes after what she wants. Hawk is a man with a secret and a painful past, who struggles to forge himself a future he can live with. The chemistry between the characters is definitely there; they can barely keep their hands off one another, even though they do not know each other very well...Sex scenes are described in detail, but are fairly traditional and inoffensive. Karly's Drifter is a pleasing read, with likeable characters and an engaging plot.      Ms. Burnett has written an inspiring tale of a couple overcoming their obstacles to make a relationship work. This story takes you through the ins and outs of this particular couple. "Karly's Drifter brought a tear to my eye on one hand and gave me hot flashes on the other! I read the story in one sitting, needing to find out how it ended. The emotional depth Sage Burnett put into her characters is incredible, especially for such a short story. Although the sex scenes are sizzling and numerous, I found myself more drawn to Hawk and Karly as people and truly enjoyed getting to know them. Hawk is the epitome of masculinity, hard and rough on the outside, although Sage does a wonderful job of showing the reader his true thoughts and feelings. This gives Hawk an excellent blend of "tough and tender." Karly is his perfect match both in the bedroom and out. She's independent and sassy, as well as vulnerable and caring. I can't imagine any other woman being able to break through Hawk's emotional armor except for Karly. Karly's Drifter is satisfying on all levels. Josie had a simple affair all planned out; an affair devoid of complicated emotional attachment. Rex turns out to be unlike any man she’s ever known and she’s not sure how to deal with her developing feelings.
