ABOUT PENNY
Born of Irish and Fae descent in the desert of west Texas,
Penny Ash traveled far and wide before settling in the wilds of
south Texas, where she farms plot bunnies and has art attacks in
her spare time. She began writing when she couldn't find the
kind stories she wanted to read anywhere else and draws on her
years of experience with the paranormal, the unusual, and the
just plain weird. A big fan of fantasy and science fiction, as
well as history and the world around her, everything is
inspiration for her stories. She writes about the places she's
lived and the people she's seen. Penny spends a lot of time
online and loves to hear from her readers.
INTERVIEW
Q. What did you do before you became a writer, and how
did you get started writing?
A. I was, and still am, an artist. I got into writing as a
natural extension of telling stories with my artwork. When I
couldn't find the kind of stories I wanted to read, I decided to
start writing my own.
Q. Where were you born, and where did you grow up?
A. I was born in west Texas. I'm an Air Force brat. We lived
all over the southwest U.S., with time out for stays in Turkey
and Greece.
Q. What's your favorite genre?
A. I love them all really, but I have a special place in my
heart for suspense thrillers and science fiction.
Q. Do you base your characters on people you know?
A. Of course I do. For looks, I base characters on people I
see that I find attractive: actors, musicians and the like. For
personalities, I base characters on friends and relatives.
Q. Where do you come up with your ideas?
A. Anything can spark an idea, from TV commercials to
magazine ads and movies. News stories are also a big
inspiration.
Q. Are your heroines anything like you in real life?
A. Maybe a little bit, although they lead much more exciting
lives than I do.
Q. What are your favorite things?
A. Books, good artwork, a really good steak, email from
readers telling me they liked my book, that sort of thing. I
love to chat via Twitter also. My name there is @PennyAsh.
Q. Do you have any special things you do when you
write?
A. I open the windows, get a large mug of ice water, put on
some music or my Dexter DVD's and I'm good to go. For some
reason Dexter inspires me to write romance, go figure.
Q. Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
A. Never give up, write, write, write, and then write some
more, be willing to revise, and finally, take the advice that
works for you and throw the rest out.
