ABOUT MICHELE
A latch-key kid
raised in Tampa, Florida, I lived inside shows about
futuristic worlds and fantastic places like Star Trek,
Bewitched, and Night Stalker. Naturally, I found my future
in alternate realities!
Transylvanian blood explains my pallor and fangs, the
huddling in shadows, that evil snicker! Must be a horror
story lurking somewhere in me. When writing a law
enforcement character, I get my Concealed Weapons permit.
When I write swashbucklers, I take sword-fighting classes!
I'm ready for an interstellar space trip!
At this very moment, I'm at my computer writing a new
story, have my head stuck in a science book, or I'm hanging
out with my new best friend, a black Labra-Doodle named
Stealth Killer, Killer for short. She's invisible in the
dark.
INTERVIEW
Q: What's your day like?
A: I rise with the sun on most days, hopefully before my dog
Killer sticks her big wet nose in my face or tickles my feet.
Coffee maker gets turned on before clothes go on, before all
other actions, most important move of the day. I settle in for a
few hours of e-mail, then I battle the most pressing issue,
perhaps making a book trailer, ordering promos, creating promo
art. I've just reached the point where I need to ignore the side
work and get back to writing.
Q: What about you is like Elissa, the heroine in
Looks Are Deceiving?
A: I have very little in common with Elissa. She's more
courageous and focused than I am. I did have a young aspiration
to join the FBI, but my terrible vision put a stop to that
dream. Oh, and I own a spray bottle of butterscotch
toffee-flavored body spray. Yum.
Q: What do you do on your off-time?
A: I'm not sure if I ever have any off-time, or really, if any
author has off-time. When we aren't physically writing, we're
mentally writing. I very rarely take breaks in the day, only to
read the paper (on the computer), watch some news show or
documentary that will either teach me something or spark an idea
for a story.
Q: What's in the future?
A: My next few projects are Sci-Fi Romances, and I hope to
incorporate some of the Romantic Suspense skills I learned in
Looks Are Deceiving. I love suspense, don't you? That sense
of curiosity and dread is such a fun ride.
Q: Do you have a writing ritual?
A: I don't have a ritual, per say. I have “help” in the form of
hats, should I need it. A sequin tiara, an angel's halo, devil
horns, arrow-through-the-head, propeller beanie, unicorn's horn,
and my favorite and most magical, a certain rodent playing
magician's helper's hat.
Q: What inspired you to write?
A: A family debate! I wrote my view into a story, and too many
people commented that I was a pretty good writer. Didn't take it
seriously for a while, though. I must thank Torch, a cute guy
with a mohawk, more earrings in his ears than I had in mine, and
a nonstop creative drive that changed me. Thanks, Torch!
Q: What's your dream set-up for writing, no limits?
A: Hmm…. A cabin on a beach in Kaui with a dependable Internet
link, a supermarket and a Chinese restaurant serving peanut
chicken a block away. And, most fantastical of all, a computer
that never crashes. Oh, throw in some cute guys. You said, no
limits! |
