Patricia’s teasing and wry sense of humor in one so young as well as her ability to let go of her innocence and take pleasure in her sensuality make her an endearing character while Jared’s sexual experience and devotion to his young bride make him an ideal husband. Ms. Wildes’ terminology and mastery of the English language immerses the reader into the time period. The possessiveness and depth of emotion shared between Patricia and Jared is heartwarming. The characters are well developed; we are privy to their thoughts which show growth through their conversations with confidants who are described only well enough to show their loyalty. Jared asks his mentor to query his own wife as to what a woman desires most as a gift from her husband. Patricia determines to use her newly discovered sexual power to ensure her husband not only falls in love with her, but recognizes her as his closest friend and confidant as well as the only sexual partner he’ll ever desire. There is intrigue in the guise of a spurned lover from the distant past determined to do away with Patricia. When the result changes Jared in the most delightful ways, his new attitude and actions cause the plot to develop in the most delightful ways also. Jared manages to exert his control without being overly domineering, and Patricia enjoys submission despite her spirited personality. I absolutely loved it when Jared decided to stop being a gentleman in the bedroom. Delicious! I could almost feel the heat of Patricia’s responsiveness to his creative lovemaking. Their combined sexuality burns up the pages, and I devoured the story in one sitting. The element of danger adds a nice dimension to the drama, and Emma Wildes writes it in a believable way. He is the kind of to-die-for bad boy who has set hearts thumping forever: sinfully handsome, sinfully good in bed…and yet with that redeemable heart women are always hoping to find lurking just below the surface! Of course it takes just the right woman to bring out such a trait. Ms. Wildes allows the reader the vicarious thrill of watching Christa achieve that status in a believable manner. In addition, she was able to breathe life into several secondary characters to a rather extraordinary degree, considering the short length of this story. Apparently, this is the second of two in The Reformed Rakes series by this author, and I am willing to bet the first, entitled The Letter, is just as charming. 5 Flowers: Recommended Read: "Miss Wildes has given her readers a gift with this gem of a regency romance. She’s created a well researched and vividly detailed story of historical England, where a person’s reputation could be made or destroyed on a whim. The characters of Andrew and Christa are both likable and the plot surprisingly well developed for a book of this short length. While the relationship between them starts off sedately and chaste, it’s not long before they’re married and heating up the sheets as Andrew discovers the hidden sexuality of his young bride. The person behind their compromising situation is well hidden until the end, and the identity is a total surprise when revealed. It’s a sign of a great author when the reader races to the end, trying to figure out who the villain is, and Miss Wildes had done just that, and done it well. I’m not a great reader of regency romances, but I can’t recommend this wonderful little book enough." —Pam, My Book Cravings

She’s basically at the mercy of her irresponsible brother and risks everything to be with Devlin. Devlin has a reputation as a rake, but his feelings for Shannon go far beyond simple sexual attraction. I highly recommend this story and if you haven’t read the other books in the series then don’t worry.
