About the Publisher
Amanda Hilton is the publisher of
Siren Publishing
(publishing erotic romance) and BookStrand
(publishing mainstream romance and general fiction).
Amanda spent most of her teenage years dreaming of true love
while devouring Harlequin and Silhouette romance novels. She wanted to become an editor for Silhouette and a romance author when she grew up.
What a glamorous life that would be! Amanda went to
college and majored in English/Creative Writing. She
tutored fellow students in grammar and usage and was
quite pedantic about transitive and intransitive verbs and
would have a fit over it's being used in
place of its. What a bore she was!
After graduation, instead of heading to the Big Apple for her dream career,
Amanda became a technical writer and web development trainer
for a major oil company. Good thing she stayed in Houston.
She met the love of her life, David, when she hosted a
Christmas Toy Drive for the Houston Junior Chamber of
Commerce and he attended as one of the guests. The two
became inseparable.
Soon after, Amanda became a web application consultant for a Big 5. Initially, life was glamorous flying from city to city while David, a business recovery consultant for a rival Big 5, jetset the world. Oh, it was fun staying in the best
hotels and eating in expensive restaurants in San Francisco,
Denver, New Orleans, New York and all the places in
between! However, soon enough, Amanda and David grew weary of the constant traveling, living out of suitcases,
being apart five days a week, and waiting in airports four or
five times a
week to be with each other on
weekends. At times, they forgot which city they stood in.
In 2000, Amanda and David left the corporate world, got
married, and withdrew everything they had from the crazy
stock market. They bought a floundering computer store in
Austin, Texas. After all, David is an expert in
reorganization of multi-million dollar companies in distress,
so what could it take to save a retail store? In less than one year,
David and Amanda turned around the company and expanded it to provide IT networking
and training to major corporations and government agencies.
They won a 2-year staffing contract with the Texas
Department of Information Resources. In 2004, their company was chosen as one of the "Top 500 Women Owned Businesses in the
United States" in annual revenues.
But Amanda's heart wasn't in this business. Every
placement was a bidding war, every client a game of
politics. Furthermore, Amanda was now in her late thirties and her biological clock ticked loudly. David,
who is a couple
of years younger, was also very ready to start a
family.
Amanda took a hiatus from the business and while caring for
their first child, she pounded out a couple of manuscripts. While pregnant with their second child,
Amanda realized she needed to focus on making her dreams a
reality.
She made the most logical decision that suited her entrepreneurial personality best.
In 2006, Amanda combined her lifelong passion for romance
novels, years of successful business experience, and
advanced skills in IT and web application development to
launch the now successful and financially solid Siren
Publishing.
Amanda's hero, soul mate and best friend, David, is her
advisor and supporter in all her business and personal decisions.
David and Amanda have two beautiful little boys, and they are actively involved in every moment of their boys growing
up. They still travel frequently. Amanda is living the life she
used to dream about and counts her lucky stars every day.
